Canadian kids need nature ... Nature needs Canadian kids!
What could be more Canadian then spending time in the great outdoors! My grade four class, at Roberta MacAdams School, has been spending time outside all year. However, one walk in the end of October led to a much bigger project. We came across some informative signs about the animals that live in our local area. Each student researched the diet, habitat, appearance, and evidence of these animals and painted watercolour pictures. We compiled our findings into a Nature Guide. As a class, we applied for a $ 2, 500 Neighbourhood Engagement Grant through the city. These funds were used to cover the initial cost to print our 80 colour page guides. We celebrated with a book launch on April 26th for the school and local community to share what we learned about the animals. Our Nature Guides sold for $15 dollars each.
