Cellist in Edmonton
In 1995 I moved to Edmonton from the Netherlands. I came with my husband for whom moving to Canada was a lifelong dream, however I was not so convinced: what was a classically trained performing cellist going to do in... Edmonton...??! Well, here I am 22 years later and happier than I could ever imagine. With a background as baroque cellist and viola da gamba player, I founded an organisation for historically informed performance practice in 2010 and it has steadily been growing, gathering an enthusiastic following. I love performing with many different ensembles and in different venues big or small, including my performances on period instruments, concerts with the Strathcona String Quartet, solo concerts, playing at outdoor festivals and playing all over the world as a cultural ambassador for Alberta/Canada. I feel lucky to live in such a beautiful place! I absolutely love Edmonton's gorgeous river valley and try to spend as much time possible hiking/camping in the Rocky Mountains!
