International musician got her start with the Music Enrichment Program
Internationally renowned cellist Cris Derksen started her musical training as a child with Edmonton's Music Enrichment Program. She was inspired to begin string instruments and was handed a card one day at school about the program. Her family was facing financial challenges while she was growing up, so the affordibility of the group lessons made it possible for her mom to send her for the lessons. Since that time, she has become a world class cellist and composer and travels the globe. She says in the video that none of this would have been possible without Music Enrichment. The program continues today in the city of Edmonton helping to make string music instruction accessible for all children.
