The Joy of Music at Eastglen High School
In April of 2016 the Sarah McLachlan School of Music starting offering after-school music programming at Eastglen High School in Edmonton. We started with 18 students on Wednesdays until the end of the school year. In September we added programming on Mondays with a different 18 students. We look forward to continuing our program with these students until they graduate from High School. From Sarah McLachlan: For those of you who might not know much about SoM, I wanted to tell why I started it. Obviously, music is extremely important to me. If fact, I can honestly say that it saved my life. My adolescence was really tough and music was the one thing that got me through it. It gave me an emotional outlet and a lens through which I could make sense of the world. Through music, I felt I had value. I learned early on how good it feels to give back and when I saw music programs being cut from the public school system, I knew I could do something to help fill that void.
